I want to take a moment for you to get to know me a little more, and how I arrived here as a healer and massage therapist. I want to take you back to my high school days, I was a very competitive soccer player and consequently suffered from shin splints. My legs hurt so bad, that I had to crawl in the mornings and just the weight of a sheet felt like my by bones were going to break in half. After years of suffering and countless hours in doctor's offices, chiropractors, physical therapist and acupuncturists I found out about Aston Kinetics. I thought "I've tried everything else, why not give this a try?". This form of helpful healing, not only cured my shin splints, but it gave me a new look on life. Originally I was applying to college as a theater major, and chose to go the route of human health sciences. I find the human body to be fascinating, and wonderfully complex. I learned the empowerment that comes with healing the mind along side the body. After graduating with a Bachelor's in Health Ecology from the University of Nevada, Reno I took some years to explore my path. I finally landed on massage therapy as a path to becoming an Aston Patterning Practitioner. The path to becoming an Aston Patterning Practitioner involves a 3 year long curriculum with several classroom hours and hands on experience.
Aston Patterning, involves an intense history background including health, occupation and mindset, because our biography becomes our biology. Every life experience (injury or not) leaves an imprint on our bodies that are help in the form of an incredibly unique holding pattern. We use all of this information, including the past and present, as a way to help you work toward your goals. Once we hone in on what is believe to be holding you back from achieving your goals, we use bodywork, movement, ergonomics and fitness to work with your body in getting you to where you want to be. Bodywork is the hands on, manual manipulation of the soft tissues of the body. We use this to most effectively affect change on the body and get you to a closer and more neutral alignment. We then use movement so that once you are in a more neutral postural alignment, you can move with your new body and prevent the same pattern from coming back. We use movement every day, and in fact are always moving. Examples include, writing with a pen, eating dinner, or more advanced forms such as walking and running. In fact, because we are always breathing, in a way we never stop moving. We then use ergonomics to help position you in the best neutral alignment as you rest or sit down. We take into consideration your car seat, office chair or couch at home. Certain holding patterns cause parts of our body to be hyper toned (or overly tight) and in contrast this can lead to hypo toned (or generally inactive muscle areas). We use fitness to encourage those hypo toned areas to be "turned on". These simple toning exercises can help you to regain your best neutral alignment. Because everyone is beautifully unique, these toning exercises are done with a supervised professional to minimize the risk of injury and to ensure you are doing them correctly for your body.
I couldn't be happier sharing my journey with you. I hope that you have learned a little more about me, and what I do. I would love the opportunity to work with you and help you work toward your goals however minimal and unique they may be.
